3rd album from Soweto sensations BCUC (aka Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness) with guest appearances from Afrobeat king Femi Kuti and renowned spoken word artist Saul Williams before a run of festival dates in the UK this summer.

Eschewing the classic album format, BCUC present three tracks – two of which clock in at nearly 20 minutes – that continue their philosophy of “Music for the people by the people with the people”, combining zulu traditions and malombo percussions with a post-punk production and rock n roll attitude that have seen them feted as one of the most vital live bands playing today.

Praise for The Healing:

Exhilarating waves of Afropsychedelia [….] BCUC have shaken up the South African music scene” ****

The Guardian - World music album of the Month, May 2019

“…the most thrilling music from South Africa for many years”

The Financial Times, May 2019

“…a trance-inducing long-form musical poem”

Afropop worldwide, May 2019

BCUC deliver another sucker-punch of driving basslines and galloping percussion”

The Vinyl Factory, May 2019

BCUC - The Healing **** Télérama (FR)

BCUC’S previous album “Emakhosini” won best world music album of the year 2018 in the Guardian

“This year’s most exhilarating newcomers hailed from Soweto. BCUC’s album Emakhosini offers a dramatic, often intimidating blend of ancient South African chants, township influences and contemporary bass riffs matched against Kgomotso Mokone’s cool, soulful vocals.”

Praise for their live show:

BCUC bring punk-rock energy and hypnotic rhythms to social activism

(Global Fest review, New York Times)

“BCUC channel political and social issues into a sound that’s as indebted to NYC post-punk of Sonic Youth or ESG as it is the anti-establishment ferocity of Fela Kuti.”

(The Vinyl Factory)

“The best live show I saw this year”

(Gilles Peterson, Worldwide Festival 2017)
